If you're one of the people who might have given up on Arrow, you're going to want to reconsider that decision, because the series has done almost a whole 180 in terms of quality and excitement. Season 5 of the superhero series is a vast improvement over recent seasons, shaking up the team dynamic with fresh faces and finding a more balanced tone between light and dark. Arrow isn't afraid to have some fun once in a while, as evidenced by an upcoming episode that will see two awesome baddies return to team up against Team Arrow. According to the press release:
China White (guest star Kelly Hu), Cupid (guest star Amy Gumenick) and Liza Warner (guest star Rutina Wesley) break out of Iron Heights and head to Star City for revenge. Oliver (Stephen Amell) tries to bring in the newly formed girl gang but the ACU intervenes mid-fight.
You just can't beat a good old fashioned villain team-up! Arrow villains China White and Cupid are reappearing for an upcoming episode, jetsetting out of jail with former Star City cop-turned-criminal Liza Warner in tow. The girl gang goes looking for some revenge against the title hero who put them in prison, and as if three villains weren't enough, the episode will also find Oliver dealing with the ACU, who have come to arrest the Green Arrow for his murder of Officer Malone. Of course, Oliver was tricked into killing him by season Big Bad Prometheus, but the police might not care about that particular detail.
Fans of Arrow should be more than familiar with Cupid by now. The love-struck villain formerly had an unhealthy obsession with the Arrow, fashioning her own archery-themed identity and going on a killing spree to get his attention. She did a little work on the Arrow-verse's version of the Suicide Squad before changing her mantra; now she kills people because love doesn't exist. She'll bring the crazy to this upcoming team-up with China White.
China White goes all the way back to Season 1 and was one of the first comic book villains that the show ever used. She was the top assassin for the Chinese Triads before eventually becoming the leader. She had a couple of appearances in the first two seasons but hasn't been seen too much lately. This episode should mark a fun come back for an old school Arrow character, and Kelly Wu is returning to reprise the role.
Fans may not immediately remember the name Liza Warner, the third member of this team-up, but she's one of the less comic book-y Arrow villains. Formerly a Star City cop, she became disillusioned with protecting a city that almost gets destroyed every May and decided it was time to get paid. She led a squadron of dirty cops in a series of crimes getting rich off stolen drugs and equipment before Green Arrow shut her down. The episode will see her reunite with her former boss Quentin Lance, and she'll have some words to say about him working with Damien Darhk last season.
All in all, it sounds like another fun episode of an increasingly excellent Season 5. Well, fun for everybody but an imprisoned Oliver, that is. You can catch Arrow when it airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on the CW, and head to our midseason premiere schedule to see what's on the way.
