Will We See Cat Grant In Supergirl Season 2?
Fans of Supergirl's first season have been waiting and waiting for a return appearance from Cat Grant. The show wrote the character off way back in October of 2016, but did so in a way that could easily make it possible for Calista Flockhart to come back for the occasional guest appearance. Unfortunately, that hasn't really happened at all in the time since Cat Grant moved on in "The Last Children of Krypton." Now, it looks like she won't make another appearance in Season 2, at all.
As recently as a couple of months ago, the rumor mill was bandying about the possibility of Cat Grant's return. Although Calista Flockhart chose to stay with her family and not move to Vancouver for production, the show had signed her on as a "recurring guest star," which seemed to be an indication that Cat Grant would still play a part in the Supergirl universe. Now, TV Line is reporting we shouldn't bet money on seeing Cat Grant again during Season 2, noting that if we do choose to bet, we shouldn't bet more than $1. There's a slim chance of making money, I guess...
This news is contrary to a report from a couple of months ago, when Supergirl producer Andrew Kreisberg admitted that deals were still in the process of being worked out. His comments at the time mentioned that Calista Flockhart's husband, Harrison Ford, was shooting a big movie (duh) and she was moving her schedule around to spend time with him. Even more recent reports said Flockhart would make an appearance on the series this spring. Now it looks like all of that was simply wishful thinking. There's always Season 3, right?
If I had to bet--and I'm not a betting woman--Calista Flockhart was probably in talks to come back during Season 2, but the scheduling may not have worked out. That's the most likely scenario, as if she wasn't in talks, all of the other former reports regarding Season 2 were just complete bollocks. I'm assuming that in general Andrew Kreisberg has a good indication of what is going on behind the scenes, too.
Cat Grant or no Cat Grant, Supergirl has a lot of big episodes coming up. The Flash and Supergirl musical crossover episode is coming up on March 21, and we've heard there could also maybe, possibly be a nod to Lois and Clark coming up. Sure, I think the show is missing Cat Grant a little bit, but the show has also grown a lot without the character in Season 2. New episodes of Supergirl air on Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET, only on the CW. To find out what else is headed to TV, take a look at our midseason TV premiere schedule.
