How Better Call Saul Will Finally Give Us Breaking Bad's Saul Goodman
Looks like Jimmy McGill is going to be taking a backseat at some point in the upcoming Season 3 of Better Call Saul. The series returns April 10th, and with it comes Saul Goodman. Seeing Jimmy McGill go full-Saul has been on fans' wishlists since the series began back in 2015, and it looks like we're finally going to be getting that wish! Bob Odenkirk shared some details at an event in Berlin:
A different Saul Goodman sounds like something we've been teased with before in Better Call Saul, considering Jimmy fits that description, but maybe this is fuller transformation than what we've seen previously. If you remember Season 1's fourth episode, we already have heard the name Saul Goodman when Jimmy and his buddy Marco con a guy into buying a fake Rolex watch. When the "mark," asks Jimmy his name, he replies with Saul Goodman, as in "It's all good, man".
While THR seems to think this will be "full Saul Goodman," I'm more inclined to think this Saul will be a slightly more evolved Slippin' Jimmy McGill with a law degree. Who knows, though? Maybe Chuck finally broke Jimmy, and we'll be seeing more Saul Goodman than I'm thinking!
Saul Goodman will not be the only Breaking Bad returning character we'll be seeing from Season 3 of Better Call Saul either. A couple months ago, it was confirmed that Giancarlo Esposito (a.k.a. Gus Fring) would be appearing in the season as well. Bob Odenkirk had some things to say regarding the drug kingpin's appearance in Season 3:
Could the appearance of Gus Fring be the reason for Jimmy to go full Saul Goodman? Likely not, as Mike was the bridge between the two in Breaking Bad, and Saul only referred to Fring as someone he knew through Mike. That only makes the reasoning for Jimmy's transformation even more interesting, as the only clue we have for Season 3 is a short promo showing Jimmy getting his mug shot taken. My best guess is that Chuck's tape recording that includes Jimmy's document tampering admission will play into any sort of legal trouble Jimmy might have in Season 3. Could Fring have possibly met Jimmy in jail?
While Bob Odenkirk's words still provide some mystery, it is good to know that we'll see some semblance of Saul Goodman in Better Call Saul. The series returns for Season 3 on AMC April 10th. If you still have yet to finish Season 2, you'll be able to binge the entire season when it hits Netflix March 27th. If you're all caught up and with nothing to watch hit up our midseason premiere guide and busy your schedule up until April!
