The Good Fight Season 2 Renewal Ordered At CBS
CBS has gotten into the streaming TV game with CBS All Access. The service launched back in 2014 as a way for subscribers to gain access to a vast library of past and present CBS projects. Recently, CBS All Access debuted its very first original scripted series, The Good Fight. The show is actually a spinoff of The Good Wife, and it has been a pretty solid critical hit so far. Now, CBS All Access has some good news for fans. The Good Fight has already been renewed for a Season 2.
Five episodes of The Good Fight are currently available on CBS All Access. The streaming service has not announced official ratings or viewership numbers, but it's likely that the show got a bump from the airing of the first episode in primetime on CBS before making the move to streaming. The series premiere attracted 7.16 million viewers and scored a 0.7 in the valuable 18-49 demographic in the Live+same day numbers. Although it didn't break any records, it did reasonably well for a new series in primetime. We can't say how many of those 7.16 million people followed The Good Fight from CBS to CBS All Access. Still, we can bet that the broadcast didn't hurt.
The Good Fight follows The Good Wife's Diane (Christine Baranski) after she loses her entire life savings and is forced to start over in a brand new job at a brand new law firm surrounded by a number of brand new faces. Also making the jump from The Good Wife to The Good Fight are Cush Jumbo as Lucca Quinn and Sarah Steele as Marissa Gold. The first handful of episodes have brought in many other familiar faces from The Good Wife, including Carrie Preston, John Benjamin Hickey, Denis O'Hare, and Matthew Perry. The cast has been rounded out by newcomers Rose Leslie, Delroy Lindo, Erica Tazel, and Justin Bartha.
CBS All Access has not yet confirmed how many episodes we can expect in The Good Fight Season 2, but THR reports that Season 2 will premiere at some point in early 2018. The series was originally slated to debut on All Access in spring 2017, then was moved forward in the schedule when the original series Star Trek: Discovery experienced production delays. Star Trek: Discovery was also slated to premiere its first episode on CBS before making the jump to CBS All Access; given the apparent success of this release method with The Good Fight, I'd say it's likely that All Access will stick with the original plan. Who knows? Maybe The Good Fight will become the template for all CBS All Access releases.
New episodes of The Good Fight are available on Sundays on CBS All Access.
