Is Abby Lee Miller Done With Dance Moms? Here's What We Know
Lifetime's Dance Moms has been dishing up all kinds of melodrama for the past seven seasons, and a lot of that melodrama has come from dance instructor Abby Lee Miller. She has clashed with the parents of her students, shared some choice words about producers, and is even currently in the midst of a sticky legal situation. Now, Miller has stirred up even more drama by declaring via social media that she is done with the series. Check it out:
Holy caps lock, Abby Lee Miller! It seems that something has happened behind the scenes at Dance Moms to push Miller to go all-out in declaring her independence. Of course, this isn't the first time that Miller has lashed out at the producers with some vague-but-incendiary comments. Still, these comments almost seem designed to burn bridges. If she intends to return to Dance Moms, she may have some 'splainin' to do. According to Deadline, Lifetime has declined to comment on the situation so far.
All things considered, she may have quite intentionally burned her bridges with Dance Moms. Abby Lee Miller is currently caught up in a legal battle that could send her to jail for up to two and a half years. She was indicted on multiple counts of fraud back in 2015 after the discovery that there were major discrepancies between her income and what she reported on her taxes. The case actually began when she filed for bankruptcy back in 2010. The presiding judge just so happened to watch an episode of Dance Moms and came to the realization that there was definitely more to her income than what was reported in her documents.
After battling it out in the courts for years, Abby Lee Miller ultimately pled guilty in exchange for a lesser sentence. Her original hearing for sentencing was scheduled for the end of February, but it was pushed back until the beginning of May. She still has a little over a month before she finds if she's going to prison; it just appears that she doesn't intend to spend that month filming Dance Moms. She may have wanted to make a break from the program now to make the most of her time before her hearing, or she may have wanted to publicly choose to leave rather than be forced out. Who knows? Maybe she was just in a foul mood and decided to vent via Instagram. At least she made it clear that her anger was toward people behind the scenes rather than toward the kids she teaches.
