What's Up With Daredevil's Costume In This New Defenders Video?
With Marvel's Iron Fist now streaming on Netflix, the final member of the Defenders has been introduced to audiences. Now we can look forward to all four heroes, and their supporting characters, uniting to save New York City in the upcoming Defenders miniseries. Details and footage of the team up have been few and far between, although Netflix released a video this morning that featured all four members taking a break from crime fighting while they ride an elevator.
Pretty awesome, right? This short clip shows all four Defenders catching their breath before continuing the battle against evil. But one Defender in particular is rocking a surprising outfit; Daredevil has been kicking ass without his signature costume again. What's up with that?
I think it's safe to assume that Matt Murdock may have gotten ambushed while on the job as a lawyer. In the short clip, Matt seems to be wearing one of his snazzy suits. But when the crap hits the fan, he fashions himself a makeshift mask and gets to fighting. Luckily, he has his super friends to help him against the enemy (likely cronies from Sigourney Weaver's mysterious villain).
In addition to Daredevil's weird outfit, there is another major revelation in this Defenders video: a release date. During the clip, you can see a timer on the upper right side of the screen. At the point where Jessica Jones rips the camera off the wall and the clip ends, the time reads 8:18:20:17. So in case you're wondering how to plan your summer vacation, make sure that August 18th is free since that will be the premiere date for the next Marvel/Netflix series.
Funny enough, it took this clip for me to realize that Daredevil is the only hero who bothers to conceal his identity (and obviously, the only one to wear a costume). Luke Cage was a major public figure in Harlem during his season, actually encouraging his community through his lack of anonymity. Jessica Jones seems to just not GAF about superhero standards, so she can't be bothered to wear a disguise. And Danny Rand's battles were mostly with The Hand, which operates secretively enough that the outside world wouldn't know about their struggle.
I have to wonder how important the above clip will actually be when The Defenders finally hits Netflix. At least one battle will take place at Midland Circle Financial, but perhaps this location will have a larger role to play in the miniseries to come. Maybe this is where Sigourney Weaver happens reside, making it a common location. Of course, I'm just spitballing, so just about anything can happen.
The Defenders will hit Netflix in its entirety on August 18th, 2017. Be sure to check out our summer premiere list to plan your TV bingeing!
