How Deathstroke Will Fit Into Arrow's Action-Packed Finale

Season 5 of Arrow will come to an end in a few short weeks, and the finale promises to bring back some of the biggest characters of seasons past. One of the characters who will be coming back will be none other than Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke. The man in the mask has been marooned on Lian Yu since way back in Season 2, so the big question was how Deathstroke would re-enter the story. Well, now we know. Deathstroke won't be going to Oliver; Oliver will be going to Deathstroke.

The Arrow Season 5 finale will be fittingly titled "Lian Yu," and it will pit Oliver against Prometheus in one final battle on the island itself. Due to how easily Prometheus has been able to best him so far (and considering what Prometheus just did to Oliver), Oliver is going to bring together a group of improbable allies. Apparently, Oliver will head down into the bowels of the island and ask Deathstroke to help him out.

I'm sure it will go wonderfully. In addition to Deathstroke, Oliver is bringing Nyssa al Ghul, Malcolm Merlyn, and Captain Boomerang into the fold. Unfortunately for them, Prometheus has some comrades of his own, in the forms of Black Siren, Evelyn, and Talia al Ghul, who will be facing off against her sister at some point in the episode. All things considered, the finale promises to be an action-packed hour of television.

Once the news broke that Deathstroke was probably coming back for the Season 5 finale, many of us guessed that it would be because Oliver was so desperate to beat Prometheus that he'd even team up with the worst of his past nemeses. The description for "Lian Yu" indicates that Oliver will indeed spring Deathstroke from his box; the trick may be getting him back into that box when all is said and done.

Deathstroke does still have quite a promise to keep, and Oliver's loved ones aren't going to just murder themselves. No matter how closely he works with his old pal in "Lian Yu," he may well double cross him. Frankly, I'd be disappointed if he didn't. Slade has arguably been Oliver's most formidable foe over the past ten years of his life, and he doesn't exactly have a lot else going on in his life to distract him from his vendetta to destroy Oliver. I'm not saying that I want him to be successful in destroying Oliver; it's just always quite entertaining (and harrowing) to watch him try.

Luckily, we don't have too much longer to wait before Deathstroke makes his grand return to the airwaves. The Arrow Season 5 finale (which may prove deadly for some) will air on Wednesday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
