Dynasty Reboot Is Officially Happening, Will Hopefully Feature Tons Of Fights
As America continues to give high ratings towards wealthy beautiful families and their drama, there couldn't be a better time to reboot Dynasty. Yes, the Carrington and Colby family story and fights that once dominated primetime television in the 80s is now set to return. Here's what we know regarding the new project and some changes you can expect from the retelling.
Right off the bat, THR tells us The CW's Dynasty reboot will offer a modern take on the feud between America's two wealthiest families. The series was announced for the 2017-2018 season, and will center on Fallon Carrington and her step-mother to be, Cristal (Nathalie Kelly).
Beyond the changed spelling from the original Krystle, the differences appear to begin with Cristal being Latina and marrying into the wealthy WASP family. Few details regarding the plot are being given beyond that, but that one difference could signal that some other changes will come from this modernization of the original drama. For example, Blake Carrington's (Grant Show) views in the original series regarding his daughter Fallon's ability to run his oil business may be a bit outdated in this modern interpretation. Then again, do the 1% necessarily abide by the standards of society?
The series is being penned by modern drama hitmakers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who have made a living off shows like The O.C. and Gossip Girl. Just from what we know of those shows, expect the drama, fashion, and fights to run hot at all times. That's how Dynasty should be, although I'm not so sure either of those previously mentioned shows featured fights quite like the 80's drama. One slap would turn things into an all out set destruction that, at times, had you questioning how much of what was happening could actually be real tension between actresses.
I'm very curious as to whether Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will step up to the plate and attempt some of the same brutality Linda Evans, Joan Collins, and others consistently did throughout the series. It will definitely be a balancing act, as the writers will likely need to decide just how much they want to service fans of the former series.
