Kevin Costner Is Heading Back To TV In A Big Way

Kevin Costner Hatfields & McCoys

You'll be seeing Kevin Costner on your television set again real soon. The Oscar-winning actor makes his return to television in a project that looks to tell of a family patriarch battling multiple forces bordering his ranch. Here's what we know regarding Costner's return to television in the series Yellowstone.

In Yellowstone, Kevin Costner plays John Dutton. Dutton is the head of the largest contiguous ranch in the United States of America. Dutton will battle land developers, Native American reservations, and the first national park of the United States in keeping his land free of influence. The story of Yellowstone is referred to as violent and the reservation mentioned uses the word "Indian" so I'm assuming this show won't dabble much in the business of being politically correct. The series is written and directed by Sicario director Taylor Sheridan and is expected to release 10 episodes in the summer 2018 on the Paramount Network. Costner is the first to join the series, which is said to start production in the fall.

Yellowstone is the first scripted series announced for the soon-to-come Paramount Network, and will join a lineup that includes the previously announced Melissa Benoist featured miniseries Waco. For Kevin Costner, Yellowstone will be the actor's first major return to television since his work in the acclaimed History miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. Costner would win multiple awards for his portrayal of Devil Anse Hatfield, and it appears there are those who think he could do the same with his character John Dutton. Harvey Weinstein, whose studio The Weinstein Company is executive producing the series, said the role called for someone as transformative as Costner. Hearing that alone really has me interested in what Costner will bring to the table in this new series.

The attachment of Taylor Sheridan, who also directed Hell Or High Water in addition to Sicario, really makes it sound as though Yellowstone could be an action packed series. I'm also playing off the keyword of violent in the description for the series, but it sounds more likely than not that Yellowstone will feature Kevin Costner kicking ass. That's not something we see too often these days with Costner hitting 62 this year, so it will be nice to see him back in the saddle again...so to speak. Let's just hope this project is more like The Untouchables than it is Waterworld!

Yellowstone is set to debut in the summer of 2018, not too long after Spike officially becomes the Paramount Network. You won't find the Kevin Costner-led series on our most recent summer premiere guide, but taking a gander at that will help you bide the time for at least the next couple months.
