One Supergirl Star Will Be Around A Lot Less In Season 3
Supergirl Season 2 just wrapped up, but now we know that one star is going to be around less when Season 3 hits the air. It looks like Floriana Lima, who portrays tough cop Maggie Sawyer on the superhero show, will no longer be a regular when next season comes around.
News dropped today that actress Floriana Lima won't be quite as large a part of the Supergirl cast as she was in Season 2. According to TVLine, Lima will go from series regular to simply recurring status on the show in Season 3. Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg noted in a statement that Lima wanted to pursue some other opportunities that would cut into her time and make her less available to the show. He also said that fans can expect Lima to be back for "multiple episodes" in Season 3, but didn't specify exactly how many episodes we could expect to see the character in next season.
Well, I'm sure this news comes as quite a shock to Supergirl fans in general, and fans of Alex and Maggie specifically. Maggie, of course, along with being a great cop and trusted ally of Team Supergirl, became Alex's first girlfriend in Season 2, and even helped the formerly unlucky in love DEO agent realize that she was gay and come out to her family. The two began dating and, by the season's end, Alex had actually proposed marriage to Maggie. Viewers will know, though, that all Maggie gave in response to Alex's proposal was a nice smile, so who knows what her answer will be.
The big question right now, is what this decrease in Maggie time on Supergirl will mean for that all important, and still pretty new, romantic pairing? Obviously, it's anyone's guess at this time. I have a feeling Maggie will probably turn Alex down, possibly citing how fresh their romance still is. This would leave it open for the two to continue their relationship, but without it being weird that Alex's newly minted fiancee is around a lot less than she was when they were simply becoming friends and then dating. After all, it would seem extremely unfair, considering how important Maggie has been to Alex's recent development, to just rip Maggie out of her life at this point.
A quick look at Floriana Lima's IMDB page shows that she doesn't seem to have signed on to any new projects just yet, but her star has been on the rise in recent years, so we have no doubt that she'll be able to fill her time soon enough. Supergirl will return in the fall; until then be sure to check out our summer premiere schedule and Netflix premiere guide to see what else you can catch on the small screen in the coming weeks.
