Tiffani Thiessen Just Landed A Netflix Show, Sadly Isn't Saved By The Bell Revival
Tiffani Thiessen just landed a role in a new Netflix show, and sadly, it's not a Saved By The Bell revival. Or a reunion special. Or a remake. But it'll be kind of close, as Thiessen's new show is a teen sitcom that puts her in a parental role that could be just as interesting and entertaining, if not more so, then much of Thiessen's prior work. Here's what we know about her new project Alexa & Katie, and what Thiessen will bring to the table.
Tiffani Thiessen will enter Alexa & Katie as a mom whose daughter and best friend find themselves in a difficult situation at their high school. Or whatever form of difficult is faced by a teen in a multi-cam comedy. Deadline reports Thiessen plays the role of Lori, the protective and determined mother of Alexa (played by Paris Berelc), a fifteen-year-old entering high school with her best friend Katie (Isabel May).
Alexa & Katie has been given a 13-episode order by Netflix, and it's set to premiere in 2018. Considering this will be Netflix's first jump into the genre of teen sitcoms -- and not so long after the widespread success of its teen drama breakout 13 Reasons Why -- it sounds smart that the streaming giant looked to snag such an iconic actress to be a part of it! What do you think the chances are of Mark-Paul Gosselaar playing Alexa's dad?
If you're not a foodie, you may not know about Tiffani Thiessen's latest jaunt in television is her cooking show Dinner At Tiffani's, which hosted Mark-Paul Gosselaar and his wife for one episode. With Season 4 of Dinner At Tiffani's currently unannounced, it's unknown whether or not her presence on Alexa & Katie will impact her running show, but we do know Thiessen is airing a Christmas special for Dinner At Tiffani's later this year.
Of course, Alexa & Katie is not Thiessen's first or second outing in the world of teen fiction, as her breakout roles as Kelly Kapowski on Saved By The Bell and as Valerie Malone on Beverly Hills 90210 were a big part of the success she's had in Hollywood. Beyond those roles, Thiessen has starred in a variety of shows like White Collar, What About Brian, and Jake And The Wonder Pirates.
If you're hoping Tiffani Thiessen on Netflix may urge the platform into looking towards a Saved By The Bell revival, don't get your hopes up. Thiessen has expressed she's not interested in revisiting the show in the past, and she doesn't see anything happening beyond that reunion that happened on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. I'm sure that's not the answer most 90s kids are wanting to hear, but at least we can watch Alexa & Katie and get nostalgic about Beyside's glory days.
Alexa & Katie doesn't have an exact release date at this time, but as mentioned, you can expect to see it on Netflix in 2018.
