Given what a big success Modern Family has been over at ABC, fans have got a good long while before they have to start thinking about the end of the show. However, that doesn't mean people can't think of how the comedy will one day wrap its run. Rico Rodriguez has played the poetic Manny for eight seasons now, and though he's not looking to stop anytime soon, he has an idea for how Modern Family can end. Catching up with CinemaBlend's own Conner Schwerdtfeger for his upcoming movie Americano, Rodriguez said:
Rico Rodriguez isn't the one who has to worry about this particular decision, but he has thought about how Modern Family should end and he thinks it'd be cool to reveal what is the purpose of the documentary that has been filming the Dunphy-Pritchett clan all these years. Modern Family uses the mockumentary style, with the characters being followed around by an unseen documentary crew. The show has never really dived into the purpose of why the film crew is following this particular family for 10 years of their lives and it could be a good way to cap off the series.
Then again, this is exactly what The Office did when it ended, with the characters finally watching the documentary of their personal and work lives. Modern Family may want to avoid too many comparisons or find a different way to address the subject. On the other hand, it doesn't really have to provide an answer. Parks and Recreation, another great mockumentary sitcom, never addresses the elephant with a camera in the room; it was simply the format the show chose to tell its jokes and people accepted it.
We've likely got a good amount of time before the ending of Modern Family needs to be brought up seriously. When asked by CinemaBlend if he had an idea of when the show would end, Rico Rodriguez wasn't entirely sure.
So, as long as Modern Family is making people laugh with quality episodes, the series likely has a few more seasons to go. Modern Family has already been renewed for Seasons 9 and 10, so we've got at least two more years of family shenanigans to go.
