Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Renewed, Season 4 Is Happening At Netflix
Netflix is the home of the some of the funniest and quirkiest comedies on TV nowadays. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt brought a team of comedic geniuses together for a series unlike anything else, and it's been a hit with viewers over the three seasons so far. Luckily for those viewers, we don't have to worry that Season 3 was the end. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has officially been renewed for a Season 4 at Netflix.
The renewal comes less than a month after Season 3 debuted. All 13 episodes of the third season were available on May 19, and the biggest fans could binge-watch to theirs hearts' delight. The latest batch of episodes brought the laughs just as much as the first two, and there was reason to be optimistic about a renewal, but nothing is ever guaranteed in the TV biz. In fact, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings recently revealed that he thinks the streaming service needs "a higher cancel rate overall." Considering that Netflix just cancelled high-profile series The Get Down and Sense8, we couldn't be 100% positive that there was a future for Kimmy.
Well, we no longer need to fret. While it would have been nice to get a renewal for Season 4 ahead of Season 3 the same way that the Season 3 renewal was announced before Season 2 even premiered, at least we know now. Ellie Kemper will be back as the irrepressible Kimmy Schmidt, and we can only hope that we'll see as much of Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane as ever. Executive producer Tina Fey clearly knew what she was doing when she put this show together.
Season 3 certainly proved that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is still finding new stories to explore. Kimmy's adventures as she tried to go to college were definitely entertaining, and we even got a surprise crossover with Orange Is the New Black when Gretchen was sent to Litchfield Correctional to encounter Black Cindy. Who knows? As long as the Netflix brass remain on board and Ellie Kemper is game to return, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt could have a long future ahead of it.
Unfortunately, we can't say at this point when the next chapter of Kimmy's adventures will pick up. The first two seasons debuted in March and April, with the third pushed back until May. Given that Ellie Kemper's pregnancy may have played a part in the later debut of Season 3, we may be able to count on Season 4 a little earlier in the year. We'll have to wait and see.
