We May Already Know When Daredevil Season 3 Is Coming Out
Netflix got in on the superhero game back in 2015 with the premiere of Marvel's Daredevil, and it was enough of a hit to kickstart a whole new corner of the Marvel universe. Now, we have Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and soon The Defenders in addition to Daredevil. Still, it feels like we've been waiting forever for more of Matt Murdock as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Season 2 ended back in March 2016, and we still haven't gotten Season 3. Now, however, we have an idea of when Daredevil Season 3 could debut on Netflix, and it's sooner than you might think.
Neither Netflix nor Marvel have made an official announcement about when Season 3 will be available, but we have reason to believe that the next batch of episodes could be as soon as February 2018. A new omnibus of Daredevil comics is slated to be released on February 20, 2018, and a second on March 20, 2018. It stands to reason that Marvel would want to time the release of its omnibus collections with a new season of the show, as interest in the Daredevil character will undoubtedly be high.
Of course, guessing a Netflix premiere date based on omnibus releases would normally be a pretty big jump to a conclusion, but there is a precedent for Marvel comic specials being released around the time of a TV season. For Daredevil Season 1, a reprint of Frank MIller's Daredevil was released. For Season 2, a reprint of Frank Miller's Daredevil companion volume and his run on Elektra comics was released. When Jessica Jones debuted on Netflix in late 2015, a reprint of the Alias omnibus was released. It would make sense for two new Daredevil omnibuses to become available around the same time as a new season as the show.
That said, there haven't been any special releases or reprints of Marvel comics for the premieres of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, or The Defenders, so we can't say for sure that the upcoming Daredevil omnibuses definitively point to a Season 3 in February or March. Netflix has kept pretty quiet on release dates for all of its superhero series. The odds are good that the first season of the Punisher show will debut by the end of 2017, presumably after the buzz of The Defenders has worn off. Mike Colter has said that he expects Luke Cage Season 2 at some point in 2018, and Jessica Jones Season 2 will have to debut as well.
Whether Daredevil Season 3 premieres in February/March or not, we're probably going to get plenty of Marvel superhero action on the small screen in the next year and a half. Hopefully Marvel and Netflix follow their established pattern for Daredevil and plan on releasing a season of the show at the same time as comic omnibuses. We'll have to wait see.
Matt Murdock will soon be back on Netflix as one of the four stars of The Defenders, which will see him team up with the other heroes to take down a bigger threat than any of them could possibly handle on their own.
