John Cho Is Joining A Crazy Network Series, Get The Details
Small screen reboots, remakes, and adaptations are a dime a dozen these days. But FOX's take on The Exorcist has handily become one of the most exciting projects of the bunch. Delivering scares and a creepy atmosphere that feels ripped straight from William Friedkin's original film, the show has managed to honor the passions of longtime fans, while also carving out its own niche in the horror genre. Much of the show's success can be traced to the sheer amount of talent associated with the series (behind the camera and in front), and now it appears that the show has found some fresh blood with the newly announced casting of Star Trek's John Cho.
FOX has officially announced that John Cho will join The Exorcist for the series' upcoming sophomore season. While we haven't seen anything from his character yet, it has been revealed that Cho will portray a character named Andrew Kim -- a former child psychologist who runs a home for at-risk foster children. As if that job doesn't seem stressful enough, Kim will eventually find his world turned upside down when one of the children in his care becomes the target of a "powerful force" beyond his comprehension.
For John Cho to make the jump to The Exorcist actually makes quite a bit of sense when we consider his history on small screen FOX projects. Specifically, the actor recently saw success portraying corrupt police officer Andy Brooks on Sleepy Hollow -- lending the sense that he definitely knows how to play in the dark and creepy atmosphere of the supernatural genre.
Small screen adaptations of film properties are nothing new (particularly on FOX), but The Exorcist has managed to set itself apart from the pack since its initial debut. One of the biggest reasons for its success has been its willingness to slowly but surely acknowledge the continuity of the original film and creative, connective tissues that honor the passions of longtime fans. With the second season of the horror series officially upon us, all eyes are on The Exorcist to continue delivering the scares -- along with some truly fantastic performances. On that note, we will just have to wait and see what John Cho can do once Andrew Kim makes his grand Exorcist debut.
The Exorcist will return to FOX for its second season on Friday, September 29 at 9 p.m. EST. For more information related to the rest of the small screen debuts slated for this summer, check out our comprehensive summer TV premiere guide and fill out your TV viewing calendars accordingly!
