Rarely does someone consider themselves the villain of their own story. That aspect is a hallmark of some of the best villains ever created and it looks like it will be the viewpoint of Alexandra in the upcoming The Defenders. Played by Sigourney Weaver, the mysterious character will be an adversary to Netflix's four superheroes, but Alexandra doesn't consider herself much of a villain. CinemaBlend was present at the San Diego Comic Con Roundtables with Weaver and Elodie Yun (Elektra), where Weaver revealed that her character isn't as simple as black and white.
Not much is known about Sigourney Weaver's Alexandra in The Defenders except that she seems to be a businesswoman in a high ranking position within the Hand. What her ultimate goal is is still unknown, but whatever it is, she doesn't consider it to be a bad thing. Being a high-powered person in the corporate world, she doesn't get too bogged down by right or wrong and simply stares ahead and does what needs to be done. Does that make her a good person? Probably not, but it doesn't necessarily make her evil. She doesn't consider herself to be the villain and she certainly doesn't think of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, or Iron Fist as heroes.
Alexandra and the Hand's motives remain unclear, but it has something to do with the newly resurrected Elektra, who fans may remember died at the end of Daredevil Season 2. The long gestating Netflix series will find the four heroes of Netflix's other Marvel shows meeting face to face for the first time and teaming-up to save the city from a plot set in motion by the Hand. The show stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Elodie Yun, Rosario Dawson, and, of course, Sigourney Weaver.
The Defenders is set to premiere its eight episode run on Netflix on August 18, 2017. For more updates on the series, make sure to keep checking in with CinemaBlend. To learn about the rest of the best shows to look out for, head on over to our summer TV premiere guide.
