Check Out Rick And Morty's Hilarious Unused Designs For Pickle Rick's Rat Suit
Rick turned himself into a pickle, folks! BOOM, big reveal! Only two days after his episode initially aired, Pickle Rick has handily transformed into one of Rick and Morty's all-time best jokes -- even rivaling the Mulan-inspired Szechuan sauce madness from earlier this season. Pickle Rick's rat-based exoskeleton has disgusted fans all over the world and captured our collective imagination, but a newly released video from Adult Sim shows the bizarre design process for the low-tech device. Check out one of the unused designs below.
Not a bad look, right? Although it's not too far off from what the Rick and Morty team eventually landed on, this initial design definitely seems to highlight the insect aspects of the suit in a far more evident way -- which makes sense, as Pickle Rick's very first (and insanely gruesome) victim was a cockroach.
However, as the Adult Swim video reveals: there were quite literally hundreds of other Pickle Rick designs that came out during the episode's development before they opted for one that emphasized the "pickleness." Check out another example below.
Arguably even more gruesome, that one is a bit more armored in appearance and lends the sense that Rick combined trash with body parts to create a suit of battle armor. That said, they only get more outlandish from here, and the next one shown takes a bit more of an "Earthworm Jim" approach to the design.
As much as we like the overall look of this one, it's hard to shake the notion that it doesn't actually make much sense. As a suit hobbled together from rat and insect parts, it doesn't really explain how Rick could make something that looks so humanoid and muscular. Having said that, this one also pales in comparison to the pizza mech -- which you can see below.
And finally, of course, there were more than a few designs that went all out and actually featured a blurred-out rat crotch right in the middle of the exoskeleton, because Rick and Morty.
All in all, Pickle Rick is hands down one of the weirdest things that we have ever seen from this insane Adult Swim cartoon -- which is saying something when we consider everything this sci-fi comedy has given us. Season 3 of Rick and Morty took forever to finally debut, but the wait was well worth it in the end. Now let's just hope that Pickle Rick makes a comeback someday.
