A new trailer for the final season of Star Wars: Rebels recently smacked the Internet, and it was filled with all the Star Wars action and goodness that we've come to expect from the show. Mandalorians! Impossible odds! High stakes! An odd emphasis on giant wolves! Jetpacks! It was a great trailer, but fans may have missed some particular shout outs to the most recent Star Wars film to hit theaters: Rogue One. Certain characters and secret projects are addressed by name during the trailer, which you can see down below.
Sharp-eared fans likely heard Rogue One's Orson Krennic get his own shout out in the trailer. Kicking in around the 1:10 mark, Grand Moff Tarkin addresses Admiral Thrawn via hologram to subtly berate him for his failures (like a Tarkin do). Tarkin directly mentions Krennic and how he's being "persuasive about his own project." That project is called Stardust, which is the code name for the still in-construction Death Star. Fans will remember that Krennic (played by Ben Mendelsohn), was the man responsible for the development of the Death Star, with an ambition to assume a high-ranking position in the Empire.
Unfortunately, this name drop is not a tease that Krennic will be making an appearance on the animated show. Show creator Dave Filioni told EW, that Krennic wouldn't be appearing on Season 4 of the show, joking that Krennic's cape alone would eat up half the budget. Still, though, the name drop serves its purpose of helping to connect the various elements of the Star Wars universe.
Fans can also easily find Saw Gerrera, the Rebel extremist who branches away from the more orderly Rebel Alliance. He can be seen in the trailer arguing against Mon Mothma's approach fighting the Empire, and advocates for bringing the fight to them. Saw previously appeared on Season 3 of the show, where he was voiced by Forest Whitaker, who also played the character in Rogue One.
The final season of Star Wars: Rebels will find the crew of the Ghost making their desperate stand against the powerful Galactic Empire. While Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla grow closer romantically, Ezra Bridger receives guidance from the Force as he seeks to find his true calling. All the while, Admiral Thrawn takes steps to wipe out the rebellion once and for all.
Star Wars: Rebels Season 4 will premiere on Disney XD on October 16, 2017. To learn about more high-profile releases hitting the small screen this year, make sure to check out our fall season release guide.
