Lethal Weapon Season 2 First Look At Michelle Hurd As The New Head Honcho

Fox brought a brand new version of Lethal Weapon to the small screen last fall, and the dramedy was a big hit with viewers. Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans created their own incarnation of the Riggs/Murtaugh partnership that was as hilarious as it was heartfelt in Season 1. Luckily for fans, the show was renewed for a second season, and a brand new boss is on board. Michelle Hurd of Ash vs Evil Dead and Blindspot will play LAPD chief Gina Santos, and we now have a first look at her in the field. Check her out!

Michelle Hurd will debut as Gina Santos in the Season 2 premiere, when she enters the scene due to the simple fact that Riggs and Murtaugh have gotten too out of hand for Captain Avery to control. All the car chases and shootouts and explosions from the first season may have finally added up to too high of a cost for the boys to get much in the way of leeway from the top brass at LAPD. She may need to fill the role of rule-enforcer at LAPD now that Avery has gotten involved in some of Riggs and Murtaugh's shenanigans. The first look indicates that she'll be out in the field from time to time.

That said, there will still be plenty of humor to be found with Gina Santos. Lethal Weapon series creator Matt Miller has revealed to TVLine that Murtaugh has a past with Santos that puts him off his game in Season 2, but we don't have to worry that things will get too steamy between the two. As it turns out, Murtaugh remembers their time together quite differently than Santos does. According to Murtaugh, they had a moment on a stakeout when they both reached for the radio at the same time, and what resulted was a "finger linger" that resulted in oodles of sexual tension. As for Santos... well, she doesn't actually remember the event in question.

We'll get to see a fair amount of Michelle Hurd as Gina Santos. Hurd has signed on for a recurring role on Lethal Weapon. She may not turn up in every single episode every single week, but she'll be around. Hopefully her presence at the precinct doesn't mean that Captain Avery will get the boot. Avery was always a fun foil to Riggs and Murtaugh, and it would be a shame to lose him.

Fortunately, we don't have to wait too much longer before we see the whole crew back in action. Season 2 of Lethal Weapon will debut on Tuesday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
