Two Arrow-Verse Characters That Will Be Extremely Important In This Year's Four-Show Crossover
As huge as this year's Arrow-verse crossover is going to be, Andrew Kreisberg is teasing that the four-show crossover will revolve around two characters in particular. Kreisberg shares more on how the Danvers sisters will be extremely important below, and how the crossover will be representative of Season 3 of Supergirl:
If you're a Supergirl fan, this news shared with EW can be a double edged sword. On one hand, it's good to see Supergirl characters getting the star treatment, seeing as the show got a bit of a snub last year when the big crossover rolled around. A crossover where the Danvers sisters take center stage definitely makes up for that, but with the way the crossover is currently being teased, that might be the last thing fans of Kara and Alex want.
The term "emotional stakes," has been thrown around a bit regarding this year's Arrow-verse crossover, and with this new information, it appears as though it will involve Kara and Alex. As Andrew Kreisberg mentioned, there are already plans for the Danvers sisters to have an episode dedicated to their strong bond in Season 3 of Supergirl, and now that we know they're the focus of the crossover, one has to wonder if the early half of this season is all a build up to some crazy moment happening in the crossover. Perhaps Alex might be placed in some real danger, which typically doesn't end well in the Arrow-verse, or something happens between the sisters that puts their relationship on ice for a bit.
Would a crossover event end with the death of Alex Danvers? That feels a little too extreme to do outside of a traditional Supergirl episode, but it's not unreasonable to think these teased emotional stakes will affect the sisters in some way. Season 2 of Supergirl showed Alex proposing to her girlfriend Maggie, and the casting of Carlos Bernard has confirmed that there's a storyline to play there, but whether or not that's before or after the crossover is unknown. There's also the news that Maggie actress Floriana Lima won't be around as much in Season 3, which could tease that she may not be needed throughout the rest of Season 3 if Alex isn't around for one reason or another.
Of course, this is just devil's advocacy and while something could happen with "high emotional stakes," in the crossover, there's no guarantee it involves Alex and Kara specifically or that either of them are in grave danger. Supergirl is set to return October 9th at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
