Arrow Season 6 Trailer Has Us Thinking Oliver Could Be Outed As Green Arrow Soon
Everything that we know about Arrow Season 6 promises that it will be a game-changer for Oliver Queen and Team Arrow. Between the death(s) on Lian Yu, the substantial return of Slade Wilson, and the reveal of Vigilante's identity (among the other main plot developments), things may never be the same for our brooding hero. However, the changes may not stop there, as a brand new trailer for Arrow's sixth season shows Slade potentially teasing the eventual reveal of Oliver's heroic alter ego to the public. Take a look at the trailer below to judge for yourself.
Cryptic, right? As Slade Wilson points out early on in that short Season 6 teaser, Oliver Queen can only walk between two worlds for so long before it becomes an untenable situation. He has done an excellent job of keeping the green hood and his life as a former billionaire separate for the last five years (ten, if you start counting at the sinking of the Queen's Gambit), but the events of Season 6 may bring him to a point at which he can no longer hide his archery habit from the rest of the world. So could Slade possibly be threatening Oliver with that line, or was it said as a sign of solidarity?
On the other hand, it looks like the full-time arrival of William in Oliver's life could force things to reach such a breaking point. Arrow has flirted with the idea of outing Oliver as Star City's hero in the past, particularly during the first three seasons, but the current ramifications of Oliver Queen being outed as the Green Arrow would still be enormous. In fact, they would completely change the nature of the series -- which actually makes sense, given the fact that many reports associated with Season 6 have suggested that it's going to feel like a reboot without going the full-blown reboot route. Outing Oliver as the Green Arrow (a la Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) would open up entirely new avenues for storytelling, as well as offering up some new ideas that we haven't seen before in the Arrow-verse.
That said, we admittedly have no certainty about if or how Oliver's identity could leak based solely on this trailer. The Arrow-verse has never shied away from allowing heroes and villains themselves to find out who Oliver runs around as at night, so anyone could out him at any given time. Then there's also the possibility that he could decide to do it himself. This would make narrative sense, as it could help inspire the people of Star City, while also currying favor with his son William (with whom things have gotten pretty rocky since that Prometheus kidnapping ordeal). So we don't know exactly how this whole thing may play out, but the wait for Season 6 just got a hell of a lot more excruciating.
Arrow will return to The CW for its sixth season on Thursday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET. However, Oliver Queen's solo series isn't the only major show set to debut this fall, so make sure to take a look at our fall TV premiere guide to keep yourself in the loop on everything debuting within the next few months!
