Check Out How Lethal Weapon's TV Show Referenced The Movies In Exclusive Blu-ray Video
Fox debuted one of the most exciting and explosive new series on television in fall 2016 with Lethal Weapon. A reboot of one of the most beloved action film franchises of all time, Lethal Weapon brought new versions of classic characters to the small screen for original stories. Although Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans went in their own directions for their performances as Riggs and Murtaugh, Season 1 included some epic references and callbacks to the movies. In this exclusive video for the Lethal Weapon Season 1 Blu-ray and DVD sets (which are available starting September 19), the references are broken down in all their nostalgic glory. Take a look!
As it turns out, Lethal Weapon snuck some amazing Easter eggs and references into episodes that we might not have even noticed at the time! The fact that the building from the first Lethal Weapon movie appeared in the very first episode of the series feels pretty perfect, as it works as a tribute to [the movie franchise][1] that started it all and showed that the TV series was going in its own direction. Eagle-eyed movie fans may have caught the building at the time. For those who didn't, this exclusive clip makes for a super fun reveal.
The episode that filled in a whole bunch of Captain Avery's backstory featured a big movie callback, as the house in which Avery had his big showdown with the bad guy was actually the Murtaugh house from the films. Of course, by the end of the episode, the original Murtaugh house got a makeover courtesy of Riggs, who awesomely drove right through the living room windows to come to the rescue, because how else would Martin Riggs come to somebody's rescue?
Hopefully we can count on some more movie references to come out of Season 2, which premieres later this month. We already have a first look at new head honcho Gina Santos, who will be played by none other than Michelle Hurd. She'll mix things up for the boys when she enters the scene, which should make for an exciting start to the new season. The time is now to look back at all the explosive excitement of the first season, if only to prepare for the adrenaline rush we're probably going to get once new episodes start airing. Lethal Weapon returns to Fox for Season 2 on Tuesday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET. For your viewing options on the other nights of the week, swing by our fall TV premiere guide.
