David S. Pumpkins Is Getting A Halloween Special, Check Out The First Look
One of the most talked-about sketches of Season 42 of Saturday Night Live starred Tom Hanks as David S. Pumpkins, with Bobby Moynihan and Mikey Day as his skeletal backup dancers. Now, NBC is bringing Mr. Pumpkins back for a Halloween special of his own, and a first look has already been released that gives the impression that we're in for something hilariously absurd this October. Check it out!
David S. Pumpkins will make his animated debut on Saturday, October 28 at 11:30 p.m. ET. The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special will air for a full half hour as compared to the few minutes we've gotten of him in action on Saturday Night Live so far, so fans of Pumpkins won't want to miss the special. The half-hour will feature Tom Hanks back as David S. Pumpkins, with Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage on board for a role, although the details of his character have not yet been announced. Original sketch writers Bobby Moynihan, Mikey Day, and Streeter Seidell will have voiceover roles as well.
The story of The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special will take place on Halloween in a small suburban town. David S. Pumpkins and his skeleton pals will be out on the town, and they'll come across a young boy and his sister. Mr. Pumpkins and his backup dancers will show these youngsters the true meaning of Halloween.
In case that sounds a little bit too fluffy for the David S. Pumpkins we've come to know on SNL, there's no need to worry. He evidently won't be answering any of the kids' questions any more than he answered Beck Bennett's and Kate McKinnon's in the original Saturday Night Live sketch. It hasn't yet been announced how much dancing will be involved, but the odds are pretty good we'll see Pumpkins and the skeletons dancing to their catchy tune yet again. Basically, The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special won't exactly be as wholesome as It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
The special will be written and produced by Mikey Day, Bobby Moynihan, and Streeter Seidell. Also, we will get to see David S. Pumpkins in the flesh. Tom Hanks will appear (presumably in his iconic pumpkin suit) on camera at the beginning of the special, which will air a little over a year after Pumpkins made his SNL debut on October 22, 2016. He reprised the role in the Season 42 finale and will do so again in Season 43.
Be sure to tune in to NBC on October 28 at 11:30 p.m. to catch the David S. Pumpkins special, and check out our fall TV premiere schedule for what you can watch while we wait.
