Marvel's Runaways Trailer Teases Big Secrets And Supervillain Parents, Check It Out
Superheroes are a big deal nowadays in television as well as film, and a whole new group of heroes is coming to the small screen in the not-too-distant future. Marvel's Runaways is bringing a team of teen superheroes to life, and together they'll be a formidable force of different powers and abilities. Unfortunately for them, their biggest threats will be right in front of them, as their parents are their villains. The first trailer for Runaways has finally hit the web, and it teases all kinds of secrets and villainy. Take a look!
Runaways will air on Hulu, and the trailer makes it clear that Hulu isn't holding back on jumping right into the thick of superhero action. We don't get to see too much of the teen heroes in action, but those villains can clearly hold their own against any forces of good. They have everything going for them: creepy dungeon setting, red robes and ritual, shady shenanigans hidden behind secret rooms, a victim being passed around for nothing good... I'd say Runaways just proved that it can deliver on the villain front in this trailer.
Of course, Runaways isn't a show about the supervillain parents. Instead, it's about their kids, and the trailer does give a few looks at the kids developing their own abilities. While not all of the kids will have superpowers, they'll each bring something unique to the team, and we'll presumably get to see how they discover their powers can be applied to taking a stand against evil, even if that evil sleeps in the same house.
Interestingly, the trailer gives a very quick hint that a certain dino character from Marvel lore will appear on Runaways: the velociraptor known as Old Lace. Take a look at Old Lace in action:
Yes, it seems that Gert will be getting her dinosaur in Marvel's Runaways. While we don't get a full body shot of the velociraptor in the trailer, the snarling creature bending over a weeping Gert has to be Old Lace. Admittedly, Gert and Old Lace are a team in Marvel lore, but this shot of Gert is likely around the time when she discovers Old Lace for the first time. The Old Lace of the comic was genetically engineered by Gert's parents; we'll have to wait and see if the Old Lace of Runaways will have the same origin. It's certainly not as thought Gert could have simply happened upon a dinosaur out and about one day.
Runaways will premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, November 21. If you're still considering whether or not to subscribe to Hulu, take a listen to the Hulu-centric episode of the Cord Cutter podcast.
