The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows on TV right now, leaving it open to all kinds of parodies, from LEGO or Muppet. While you wait for the Season 8 premiere -- which also happens to be the 100th episode of the show -- satiate your ravenous hunger with an adorable parody of The Walking Dead from Sesame Street. It involves Cookie Monster as Rick Grimes trying to keep his cookies safe from the walking gingerbread, and it is 100% delightful.
You wouldn't think a program that teaches kids how to spell and share would be that interested in making a parody of a gory adult TV show about zombies and the breakdown of humanity, but hey, it'll put a smile on your face. Called "The Walking Gingerbread," the video stars Cookie Monster as Sheriff Graham, who tries to keep his cookies safe from hungry gingerbread men. Accompanying him is D'oro and Macaroon (Muppet versions of Daryl and Michonne), who try to keep the cookies safe, but Graham's self-control isn't any better than the gingerbread men. There's even a fun little cameo from The Governor, which is kind of a weird callback considering it's Negan who's all the rage right now.
Because this is Sesame Street, there is a moral to the story. Cookie Monster ends up teaching the gingerbread men about self-control and not just eating cookies when you feel like. Instead, they should just dance, which is kind of just trading one addiction for another, but whatever, it's fun!
Sesame Street has been doing these fun parodies of popular movies and TV shows for a while now, inserting their classic characters into different roles. The long-running children's program has released videos parodying the Avengers, Game of Thrones and even The Hunger Games. Each one is adorable and something that both adults and kids can enjoy.
While many of you might agree that we'd watch a full one-hour version of "The Walking Gingerbread," the real thing is coming back tonight. The Walking Dead will air its special 100th episode tonight on AMC. The episode will pick up where Season 7 left off and will see Rick Grimes continue to build up his allies in order to finally take down Negan once and for all.
The Walking Dead returns tonight at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. To refresh yourself before the big premiere, here's everything you need to know about Season 8.
