How Stranger Things' Season 2 Shadow Monster Compares To The Demogorgon
We're just a few days from one of the most highly anticipated season premiers in recent memory: Stranger Things. The sci-fi period piece has kept fans waiting for over a year, and will be releasing its second season just in time for Halloween this week. Stranger Things 2 (as the Duffer Brothers are calling it) will once a gain return us to Hawkins, Indiana, where the supernatural disturbances haven't quite stopped. There's a new monster in town: a giant shadowy creature that will be the main villain of Season 2. And the cast has just told CinemaBlend what makes it so different from last year's Demogorgon.
CinemaBlend's Conner Schwerdtfeger recently spoke to some of the cast of Stranger Things at Netflix's recent press junket. That's when actors Joe Keery (Steve) and Natalia Dyer (Nancy) revealed what makes the new monster unique from the Demogorgon.
While The Demogorgon was a terrifying creature in Stranger Things' first season, it looks like its just the tip of iceberg. Because rather than one humanoid entity, the shadow monster is an all consuming force that Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan probably won't be able to fight off with a bear trap and a few bullets.
The Shadow Monster is one of the biggest mysteries revolving around Stranger Things 2, and it's been teased for months now. It made its debut in Stranger Things' Super Bowl ad this year, instantly amping up excitement for the show's eventual second season. Since then, the monster has been a major part of its marketing campaign, showing up on posters, teasers, and full blown trailers.
The Duffer Brothers have also teased that The Shadow Monster may not be vanquished at the end of Season 2, but that it may end up carrying over to future seasons. And that does make sense; after all it's going to be very difficult to attempt to vanquish such a giant and presumably non palpable monster. The final Stranger Things 2 trailer showed the majority of the starring cast gearing up for a battle in Joyce's home. Hopper has an assault weapon, Nancy has a hunting rifle, and Steve once again is rocking the nail filled baseball bat. But can they physically fight something that is made of shadows? We'll just have to wait and see.
Stranger Things will release the entirety of its second season October 27th on Netflix. In the meantime, check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
