Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff Just Finished Filling Its Cast
Grey's Anatomy is the show that just keeps on showing at ABC, and it's currently going strong in its fourteenth season. ABC will be expanding the Grey's universe in the not-too-distant future with a spinoff all about a group of firefighters in Seattle. The new show has been casting its crew of firefighters for a while now, and we now know that the final series regular role has been cast. Alberto Frezza of Dead of Summer landed a role in the Grey's Anatomy spinoff.
Few details are currently available about Alberto Frezza's role on the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, although TVLine reports that his character will be named Ryan. Frezza joins a cast already comprised of Miguel Sandoval of Dallas, Jaina Lee Ortiz of Rosewood, Grey Damon of Aquarius, Jay Hayden of The Catch, Okieriete Onaodowan of Broadway's Hamilton, Danielle Savre of Too Close To Home, and Barrett Doss of Iron Fist. A Grey's Anatomy veteran will be part of the team as well, as Jason George will leave the mothership behind for a role on the spinoff. Dr. Ben Warren will be saving lives in a different way moving forward.
The spinoff was officially ordered back in May, but an official title has yet to be announced. The show will kick off with a backdoor pilot at some point during Grey's Anatomy Season 14. We can bet that Ben will have a major part to play in the backdoor pilot, as he'll remain a regular on Grey's Anatomy until the spinoff officially launches. We may have to wait a while before we find out what kind of character Ryan will be. Alberto Frezza is best known for his role as Deputy Garrett Sykes in the short-lived Freeform series Dead of Summer. He also appeared earlier this year in an episode of Criminal Minds and in the Charlie's Angels reboot in 2011.
In case you're not up on what's happening, the spinoff will take place in a Seattle firehouse and follow a group of brave souls who are willing to risk everything for the good of others. Their private lives and loves will have to compete with their senses of duty for their jobs, and work is always dangerous. Characters ranging from a seasoned captain to a new recruit will face all manners of trials at the firehouse.
There's no premiere date for the spinoff just yet, but you can catch new episodes of Grey's Anatomy on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. There's already been plenty of plot twists and drama in Season 14, and the rest of the season is shaping up to deliver even more twists. The 300th episode is soon the come. Be sure to tune in to see the rest of Ben's time on Grey's Anatomy before he makes his big departure. It's not yet clear how Grey's will handle the Ben/Bailey relationship once Ben takes off for a firehouse rather than a hospital. Take a look at our fall TV guide for other viewing options.
