Josh Groban Is Going To Play Tony Danza's Son For A New Netflix Show
When people think about Who's The Boss actor Tony Danza and singer Josh Groban, well, I doubt they generally think about those two people at the same time at all. But, that's about to change, because, in a casting move that pretty much no one could have guessed, Tony Award nominee Groban has just signed on to play Danza's son in the new hour-long Netflix dramedy The Good Cop.
According to Netflix, the 10-episode season will focus on Tony Jr. (Groban), a dedicated and "obsessively honest" detective for the NYPD who takes great pleasure in always sticking to the many rules of his chosen profession. His dad, Tony Sr. (Danza), however, is actually a disgraced former officer with the NYPD who never followed the rules and will become an unofficial partner with his son as he tries to school Tony Jr. with street smart advice about everything from working his difficult job to dealing with personal relationships.
Obviously, if you quizzed most people on who might be playing Tony Danza's son in a new show, pretty much no one would have picked Josh Groban as the one to fill the part, but, considering the characters they'll each be playing it actually makes a bit of sense. Clearly, Tony Jr. and Tony Sr. are very different people, so the benefit of having two stars who seem to have little in common playing father and son means that this might actually work out quite well.
Josh Groban is, of course, best known as a singer who happens to possess one of the most recognizable voices in music. Groban has sold over 30 million albums and DVDs during his career, and, according to Billboard, is the only singer to have two of his albums appear on the Top 20 Best-Selling Albums list of the past decade. The Grammy nominee, who's released seven studio albums so far, has been making the move into acting for the past few years, and has become known for his comedic performances in films and on TV shows such as Crazy, Stupid, Love, Muppets Most Wanted, Parks and Recreation, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Crazy Ones. In 2016, Groban made his Broadway debut as a star of the new musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and his performance netted him a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.
There's no word yet on when The Good Cop, which is being executive produced by Andy Breckman (Monk), Randy Zisk (Bones, Monk) and Howard Klein (The Office), will hit Netflix, but stay tuned to CinemaBlend and we'll be sure to keep you up to date on all the details of Josh Groban and Tony Danza's new series.
