David Cassidy became a big name on the small screen in the 1970s thanks to a starring role on The Partridge Family, and he has a number of fans from his time on the show and for his career beyond television. Unfortunately for those fans as well as those who knew and loved him, David Cassidy has passed away. The singer/actor was 67 at the time of his death.
The cause of death for David Cassidy was organ failure. In a statement released in the wake of his passing, Cassidy's family revealed that he was surrounded by his loved ones, and he died "with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long." The actor was public about struggles with alcohol and substance abuse that took a toll on his life, but People reports that his family immediately came to his side when he ended up in the hospital last week for liver and kidney failure. He died surrounded by family.
Following his hospitalization, David Cassidy was placed in a medically induced coma, although he was conscious as recently as November 18. In fact, he was reportedly "thrilled" to see his family members when they came to his side, and there was total resolution to any conflicts by the time the end came for him. Cassidy is survived by son Beau, daughter Katie (of Arrow fame), brothers Shaun, Patrick, and Ryan, stepmother Shirley Jones, and a number of extended family members. Earlier this year, David Cassidy revealed another personal issue he'd been dealing with for some time. He was battling dementia, which sadly ran in his family.
David Cassidy made his professional debut into the acting world with a role in Broadway's The Fig Leaves Are Falling when he was only 19-years-old, but his big break came a year later when he landed the role of Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family. He became a teen heartthrob for both his role on the show and his original work as a singer, although he wasn't always looking to embrace the fame. Cassidy went on to become a big name in showbiz, both as an actor and a musician. He will certainly be missed in the aftermath of his death.
