The End Of The F***ing World Trailer: First Look At Netflix's New Dark Comedy
As 2018 officially kicks off, Netflix is apparently looking to make subscribers laugh, but while we'd like to say it's on a positive note, there's absolutely nothing emotionally positive about the upcoming dark comedy The End Of The F*ing World. While this series may not put viewers in the most optimistic of mindsets for the new year, it does look hilariously irreverent, showcasing two teenage outsiders going on an adventure that sounds as though it could have a rather gruesome ending. Check it out!
Because it can, Netflix is trying to rope its subscribers in with a comedy series about a psychopathic boy, James, and his quest to kill a new girl he made friends with named Alyssa. The upcoming eight-part series The End of the F*ing World, based on the graphic novel of the same (non-asterisked) name, first aired on the U.K.'s Channel 4 back in October. This first U.S. trailer dropped just days before it's arrival, too, as Netflix surprisingly announced the comedy import can be binged starting Friday, January 5.
Those scratching their heads over the familiarity of main man Alex Lawther may be Black Mirror fans, as he was the main character in the wild episode "Shut Up And Dance." Lawther also showed up in The Imitation Game and Goodbye Christopher Robin, so it appears The End of the F*ing World is the more darkly amusing stop on this young actor's path to worldwide stardom. As for his co-star Jessica Barden, American audiences might know her from her role as Justine in Penny Dreadful, or perhaps as Kayleigh Morton on Coronation Street. Also featured in the series is Game of Thrones' Yara Greyjoy portrayer Gemma Whelan, who will play a detective looking to hunt the teens down.
Considering this offbeat series has already aired in the U.K. and is based off a well-received graphic novel, anyone wishing to research The End of the F*ing World before watching will definitely want to tread lightly, since spoilers for this show are all over the web. As well, anyone who's squeamish about violence might want to steer clear altogether, as it appears the main character James was killing animals prior to his decision to graduate to human targets. Of course, a little gruesome imagery is always fair play on a series that is described as a dark comedy, so most people interested in the show likely know what they're getting into.
The End of the F***ing World will make its grand effing debut on Netflix on Friday, January 5, at 12:01 a.m. PST.
