Modern sitcoms based on the exploits of roommates and best friends don't get much better or more beloved than New Girl. The show has remained a staple of the FOX lineup since its 2011 debut; now, everyone involved in the show has finally decided to say goodbye. Not much information has been revealed about the final run of episodes (which the cast reportedly fought for), but we have now finally learned that Season 7 will kick off on April 10 and feature an army of returning guests as everyone in the loft gradually ends their respective stories.
While it has been a long wait since the Season 6 finale last year, New Girl is finally beginning its final season on April 10. Season 7 will run for eight episodes, and feature guest stars in the form of fan favorites like Nasim Pedrad, Damon Wayans Jr., Rob Reiner, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sam Richardson, and Season 1 love interest Dermot Mulroney. In addition to those returning players, the season will also introduce New Girl newcomers JB Smoove (of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame), and comedian Tig Norato.
If you have kept up with New Girl, then you already know that the show still has several plot threads that should be tied up over the course of Season 7's eight-episode run. Even though Season 6 definitely could've capped off the series in the event that it did not receive a renewal, the show still has to deal with Cece's pregnancy, Nick and Jess' rekindled romance, and the recent developments in Winston and Any's relationship.
In order to accommodate that transition for these characters, the folks behind New Girl have actually opted to wind the clock forward and provide the show with a three-year time jump. This jump will see Nick and Jess happily dating again and returning to Los Angeles after a successful book tour. For his part, Schmidt will be a stay-at-home dad while Cece provides for the family, and Winston and Aly will be happily married with a child on the way. It will be interesting to see how fans respond to that time jump, as each character will clearly go through a lot in that period of time.
New Girl will return to FOX for its final season on Tuesday, April 10 at 9:30 p.m. ET, and the series will conclude its run in a two-hour finale on Tuesday, May 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
