New Supergirl Trailer Introduces Brainiac 5 And The Legion Of Super-Heroes
Supergirl will soon return to the airwaves for the second half of Season 3, and fans will get to see what happens next after the heartbreaking ending of the midseason finale that saw Kara brutally beaten by Reign. Kara was left comatose, which was both very bad for her as an individual and for National City. Without the Girl of Steel, Reign doesn't seem to have anybody powerful enough in National City to oppose her. Fortunately, Kara and the folks at the DEO have some superpowered connections to a group known as the Legion of Super-Heroes, and a new trailer for the midseason premiere indicates that Brainiac will be joining his fellow members. Take a look!
The trailer makes it clear that even though Kara is out of commission in the real world in the midseason premiere, she'll have plenty going on in her own head. Trapped inside a mind prison, she'll seemingly be at least somewhat conscious but unable to help her friends in National City. That's where the Legion of Super-Heroes will come in. Martian Manhunter isn't optimistic about their odds of success against Reign without Supergirl, at which point Winn pipes up that they just so happen to know a literal legion of superheroes.
Of the Legion, only two members have officially debuted on Supergirl at this point. Mon-El returned to the mix in the first half of Season 3 as a member of the group and a married man. His wife is none other than the superhero known as Saturn Girl. While they haven't had too much to do in National City just yet, Supergirl getting smacked out of the game means that they'll have to step up, and they're evidently bringing help in the form of Brainiac 5. In case we had any doubts, the trailer features a scene of all three brandishing their Legion rings.
Interestingly, it looks like Brainiac 5 may interact with Kara even while she's trapped in her mind prison, which seems to have taken the shape of her apartment. There's a quick shot of Kara using her heat vision to almost certainly try and break her way out of the mind prison. While we obviously can't say at this point if, how, and/or when she succeeds in busting herself out, there's another shot that shows Brainiac 5 seemingly in her apartment with her.
The character description for Braniac 5 released back in November didn't mention any telekinetic powers a la Martian Manhunter that would enable him to visit her in her mind prison, but anything is possible. He is a half organic/half computer hero whose brilliance can be measured at a 12-level; perhaps he used his intellect to devise a way to get through to her without any telekinetic powers in play.
At this point, we can only wait and see. Supergirl returns with its midseason premiere on Monday, January 15 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Unfortunately, fans will only get a limited supply of new episodes early in 2018, as the premiere of Black Lightning is moving Legends of Tomorrow into Supergirl's time slot for nine weeks. We're in for a nine-week Supergirl hiatus from the beginning of February to the beginning of April.
