Kath & Kim
is a new NBC comedy that is the American adaptation of a popular Australian series. Molly Shannon and Selma Blair star as the title characters, with Shannon playing Kath and Blair playing Kath’s daughter Kim. Kath is upbeat and newly in love with a sandwich shop owner named Phil (John Michael Higgins). Meanwhile the self-absorbed Kim has recently moved home after walking out on her husband of six weeks, Craig (Mikey Day).

From the preview clips below, it looks like Kath and Kim have a strange relationship. While their personalities clash, they both seem to understand each other. They flip back and forth between bickering and then getting stuck on some random tangent that they both agree on. It’s kind of funny. TV Guide gave the pilot a poor review in their recent issue but as comedy pilots are often awkward and we’re dealing with an adaptation, I think Kath & Kim deserves a chance, at least for a few episodes. Since it’s airing during NBC’s Thursday night block of comedies, it’ll be virtually unavoidable.
