Based on the classic novel by Michael Crighton, this two-night miniseries is about a mysterious, deadly plague brought to earth when a U.S. military satellite crashes in a small town in Utah. The virus leaves only two survivors who could be the key to finding a cure. The military puts together a team of geniuses to try and figure out how to stop the plague, which is code-named “Andromeda.” Meanwhile a reporter catches wind of the story and tries to find out what’s going on.
The A&E miniseries will air on Memorial Day. Here’s some info about the cast: Benjamin Bratt (Traffic, Miss Congeniality) plays Dr. Jeremy Stone, the guy heading up the team of scientists trying to stop Andromeda. Eric McCormack (Will and Grace) plays Jack Nash, the investigative reporter with an addictive personality. Ricky Schroder (Silver Spoons, 24) plays Major Bill Keene, MD, a virologist who works for the Army's Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease. Andre Braugher (The Mist) plays General George Mancheck, the man who assembles the “Wildfire” team. Christa Miller (The Drew Carey Show, Scrubs) plays Dr. Angela Noyce, a surgeon who specializes in exotic diseases. Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) plays Dr. Tsi Chou, a microbiologist who serves as the U.S.-based bio-terrorism consultant. Viola Davis (Disturbia, Traffic) plays Dr. Charline Barton, a pathologist who used to work for the Centers for Disease Control and now works at the San Francisco health department.
I’m pretty sure The Andromeda Strain was one of the books my dad always tried to get me to read when I was a kid and I was too stubborn to pick it up because it didn’t sound like something I’d like. And by “sound” I mean the title didn’t appeal to me. Having seen the trailer (below) and the cast list for the miniseries, I’m actually kind of excited about it in a geeky sort of way. Plus it also helps that I love miniseries. I’d love to hear what fans of the book and original film think of A&E doing this miniseries. Is the remake unnecessary or do you think this adaptation of the book will be an upgrade?
