"This game is simple. Either you will win . . . or they will win." That’s how host Bob Saget begins every episode of 1 vs. 100. The premise behind this particular darkly-lit game show is one contestant competes against a hundred-person “mob” to answer a variety of trivia questions. After each question the contestant answers correctly, the number of mob members who answered it incorrectly are revealed and they are eliminated from the game. If the contestant eliminates all of the mob members, he or she walks away with the top prize of $1,000,000.

The role of the mob lends itself to special guests and theme episodes. Last season, mob members included Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings as well as several winners from Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and a few of the models from Deal or No Deal. Kevin Federline also guest-starred, but was knocked out of the game after only a few questions. Tonight’s premiere features a battle of the sexes. One game will be a female contestant competing against a mob of 100 men, while the other game will be the reverse. This episode has also been teased as the first one in which a contestant wins the grand prize.
In general, I’m not a fan of the new breed of game shows that feature C-list celebrities in dark suits and eager contestants jumping around and screaming a whole bunch. Deal or No Deal stresses me out and The Power of 10 just confounds me. I went to NBC.com to see what the whole deal was with 1 vs. 100 and discovered the online game. The questions are pretty easy, but the winner-take-all aspect of the game would stress me out even more than all those folks yelling at briefcases. You have to decide whether or not you want to take your money and run before you even see the question. In any case, I played the online game once and beat out all but about twelve people. I may play the online game again, but I still probably won’t be tuning into the show—even if it does star Danny Tanner.
