2009 Summer TV Preview: DJ And The Fro
If you watched the MTV Movie Awards then you might have caught the special preview of MTV’s new series DJ & the Fro. This Monday, the show will premiere and is set to air weekly at five on MTV.
Below is MTV’s description for the series:
“MTV brings animation back to the network with DJ & the Fro. It's Beavis and Butthead for the Millennial generation. DJ & the Fro work for a big corporation -- though they aren't sure exactly what the company does. Aimed at the generation that eats, sleeps and breathes technology --DJ & the Fro combines animation and the best of the web. The internet clips are arguably the stars of the show -- the funniest, weirdest videos on the internet, made funnier and weirder by the observations of DJ & the Fro. Exec Producers: Dave Jeser (Drawn Together) and Matt Silverstein (Drawn Together). Tune-in Monday through Thursday at 5pm.
When I was growing up, sitting on the couch with a friend, watching crappy music videos and making random comments about them was always a fine way to pass the time. So naturally, MTV’s Beavis and Butthead, was hugely popular among teens and young adults. Does MTV even air music videos anymore? Kids are more likely too busy tweeting, updating their facebook profiles, texting each other and watching (or uploading) stupid videos on youtube, so it seems fairly appropriate that MTV would revisit the “idiots with opinions” concept and tweak it to suit the current trends.
Will this series be popular? Maybe. I think, like the stupid videos featured in the show, it’ll be hit or miss. Kids and young adults will either embrace it as my generation did B&B or not.
