Early next month USA is bringing Psych back with new episodes. The fourth season promises intensified action, including an old-fashioned style showdown when Shawn and Gus attempt to save an old western town from being taken over by a corporation. Guest stars appearing in upcoming episodes include Cary Elwes, James Brolin, and Rachael Leigh Cook.

Psych is one of my favorite summer shows. Between the clever little mysteries, the witty banter and Shawn and Gus’ bromance, there really isn’t a lot not to love about this show. Plus, the overall character development moves slowly enough that even if you’ve never seen an episode or you’re only a casual viewer, it isn’t difficult to jump in and enjoy the show on an episode to episode basis. For devoted viewers, there are plenty of inside jokes and of course, the unfolding history of Shawn and Gus’ friendship as well as Shawn’s relationship with his dad to watch unfold via the occasional flashback.

As for what you can expect from season four, below is USA’s description for the season:

The action intensifies this season as the crime fighting duo of Shawn and Gus save an old western town from a corporate take-over which ends with an old fashioned showdown and prove an exorcism may not be the only way to exorcise a demon. On the personal side, Shawn and his girlfriend Abigail's (Cook) relationship grows and Shawn has to adjust to being in a relationship. In the premiere episode, “Extradition: British Columbia,” Shawn and Gus outwit a notorious international art thief, Despereux (Cary Elwes), and when they travel to the ski slopes of Vancouver, they discover that he’s not an art thief but an insurance scam artist. The fourth season guest stars include Elwes (The Princess Bride, Twister), James Brolin (Catch Me If You Can, Hotel), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) plus a return appearance by Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That, The Babysitter's Club). PSYCH is executive produced by Steve Franks (Big Daddy), Kelly Kulchak and Chris Henze, with Universal Cable Productions in association with Tagline Pictures. Mel Damski (Picket Fences) serves as the executive producer and serves as a director. Saladin K. Patterson (The Bernie Mac Show) and Bill Callahan (Scrubs) are co-executive producer/writers.
