2013 Emmy Nominations Announced - Read The Full List Here
The 2013 Emmy nominations were announced this morning, showering love on Internet series for the first time, with House of Cards and Arrested Development getting a strong share of nominations, including a Best Drama Series nod for House of Cards. Despite the presence of those two newcomers the nominations were largely dominated by perennial favorites, including strong showings for The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family in the Comedy categories and the domination of AMC's twin powerhouses Breaking Bad and Mad Men in the drama categories. Both will once again face competition from Homeland, though, last year's big winner that was nominated once again in the major categories-- including, finally, a nod for Mandy Patinkin.
Among the surprises was the amount of love for Enlightened, the severely under-watched HBO drama that wasn't renewed for a third season, but earned nominations today for Laura Dern in the lead role and Molly Shannon for her guest turn. Kerry Washington also managed to sneak into the Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the soapy Scandal, alongside serious heavyweight competition like Robin Wright, Connie Britton and Claire Danes. And though Arrested Development didn't have quite as strong a showing as it might have, three cheers to Jason Bateman to returning to the Lead Actor in a Comedy category-- though how you manage to choose between him, Alec Baldwin and Louis C.K. is beyond me.
The Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 22 on CBS. Check out the full list of nominees below.
