Strike Back Renewed For Season 6 At Cinemax
Strike Back is coming back! The Cinemax series has gotten the greenlight for a sixth season (or seventh if you are watching on UK's Sky). This announcement comes before Season 5 has even concluded. The fifth season of the series stars Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson, Roxanne McKee, and Alin Sumarwata. Strike Back follows the members of a covert team of British special ops, as they take on dangerous missions for the elite, Section 20. The team's targets are international criminals with ties to terrorism. It is a job that takes them all over the world and each season has traditionally covered a new threat.
Previous cast members have gone on to have tremendous career success. Strike Back Season 1 featured actor Richard Armitage (North & South), in the lead role of John Porter. Since his stint on the series concluded, Armitage has done more than okay for himself. Among his post-Strike Back credits is a starring role in the Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Hobbit. His co-star Andrew Lincoln has found similar success, starring as Rick Grimes on AMC's The Walking Dead.
Season 2 featured Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton as Strike Back's leads: Sergeant Michael Stonebridge and former Delta Forces operative Damian Scott, respectively. When the original series ended in 2015, Winchester and Stapleton went on to other projects. Winchester starred in the short-lived NBC series The Player before landing on NBC's long-running procedural Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Stapleton currently stars on the NBC thriller Blindspot.
For a time, it seemed like Strike Back was over. Then in 2017, news came that Cinemax had given the go-ahead to a reboot of the show. The series' revamped spin would follow the same premise with a new cast. The fifth season entitled Strike Back: Retribution is currently airing and considered the series' fifth season. Phillip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton are even set to make a return to Strike Back in Season 5. The duo will star in the penultimate episode of the season and the season finale, which airs on April 6.
Currently, we don't have information on a premiere date for the new season, although reports indicate filming is expected to happen later this year. (And speculation should put it arriving no sooner than 2019.) The series airs first on Sky One in the U.K. and then in the U.S. via Cinemax. Season 5 finished airing on Sky One back in February, while Season 5 is set to end in April on Cinemax. With the gap between the U.K. and U.S. airings, it is unclear when the premiere for Strike Back Season 6 can be expected to air on Cinemax.
For fans missing The Punisher, another conspiracy thriller with military ties and explosive action, Strike Back may be the binge-watching experience you didn't realize you needed. You still have ample time to brush up before the current season ends. The Season 5 finale airs April 6 at 10 p.m. ET on Cinemax.
