Frank Miller has tackled Batman, Daredevil, and various other original graphic novels that became hits at the box office, but he's never done anything quite like what he's about to do with Netflix. The acclaimed author and writer and producer Tom Wheeler are teaming with the streaming giant to bring a wild new TV show based on the duo's yet-to-be released young adult book. Netflix has ordered Cursed to series from Miller and Wheeler, as the two look to expand on their book that is steeped in Arthurian legend.
Cursed is a retelling of the classic Arthurian legends with a focus on the character Nimue, who is described as a teenage heroine with a unique gift and is ultimately doomed to become the Lady of the Lake. The Cursed series will likely tell the same tale from Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler's upcoming book of the same name, which will be released in the fall of 2019. Very little was revealed about what differences there will be between the two tellings, although the series will further flesh out some characters that are in the book. Netflix granted the series a 10-episode order and no timetable for when interested parties can expect it, but one may speculate it will release after or around the same time as the novel.
Cursed will be executive produced by both Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, who both have a hand in creating the novel. Wheeler is writing the story, and Miller is providing both full-color and black and white illustrations for his debut young adult novel. The book's title, Cursed, is tentative. Should the title of the book change, it's likely the Netflix series will get a title change as well. While Deadline didn't indicate whether or not Miller will direct any episodes of the upcoming series, that seems like a strong possibility considering Miller's penchant for doing so with a few films based off his work.
Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler diving into the story of Nimue with Cursed sounds like it could be a riveting tale, and quite lengthy. At this time, it is unknown whether or not the duo is planning to expand the story beyond the 10 episodes the series was given by Netflix, but there's certainly enough content in the mythological source material and talent between the two men to stretch things out for at least a couple seasons. One would imagine a lot of this show's future depends on the success and acclaim the novel gets, although that's just speculation.
