Life Sentence may be nearing the end of its life. The CW drama stars Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) as a cancer patient who gets a new lease on life when her once-terminal diagnosis is miraculously overturned, and she is cured. Only four episodes of the series have aired in its Wednesday time slot, and the decision has been made to move it to the much-dreaded and highly ominous Friday night fright-zone. Few series typically survive the move. Of course, there have been rare exceptions. Back in 2010, The CW moved its ever-popular series, Supernatural, to the time slot. After two seasons, it made its way back to mid-week territory.
While fans will undoubtedly seek hope for the series' future, THR has a grim ratings forecast. Even on its best night, the series drew in a record-low audience for an hour-long scripted series in the 2017-2018 TV season. While that is a record for Life Sentence, it is certainly not one they would have wished for. The CW, notorious for its tolerance of lower-rated fare, isn't always too hasty to make cancellations based series' ratings performances, so perhaps there's still some small amount of hope for Life Sentence to survive on Fridays.
The series still has one more episode left to air in its Wednesday night time slot before it moves to Friday. The next episode is entitled "Wes Side Story." In it, Stella (Lucy Hale) will attempt to get hers and Wes' (Elliot Knight) romance back on track. Unfortunately for the couple, Wes is greeted with the arrival of an unexpected guest, causing things to take a turn. While the series has not experienced a lot of life in the ratings, the series itself has many stories left to tell. The first season was given the green-light for thirteen episodes, which means Life Sentence has not even aired half of its season yet.
The dramedy marks actress Lucy Hale's first TV series following the end of the long-running series Pretty Little Liars. Hale had a starring role on the show. After seven seasons, the series ended its run in June of 2017. Some of the characters will live on though, as it has been announced that the mystery series is getting another spinoff. This one is entitled Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. Two of Hale's Pretty Little Liars castmates, Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish (who respectively starred as Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal in the original) will reprise their roles in the pilot. With Life Sentence's life expectancy now in question, Hale could theoretically reprise her role as Aria Montgomery on the new spinoff.
Until then, you can stay tuned for more of Lucy Hale's current series. Life Sentence will complete its Wednesday night run on April 4 at 9 p.m. ET with Episode 5 on The CW. The series will return in its new time slot on Friday, April 27, at 9 p.m. ET with Episode 6.
