24 Co-Creator Shopping Around A Kennedy Mini-Series
Anyone watching 24 can see that there’s a slight right wing bent to the series. The stance the show takes is often that of the conservative side of the political coin. But it’s not a political show, and the real meat is the action. Joel Surnow, who co-created 24, is now shopping around a 10-episode miniseries based on the Kennedy family. A move that I’m sure will get a few people crying foul that the first family of liberalism in America could come under attack.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the pitch for The Kennedy’s being pitched internationally this weekend in Cannes is this: ”The Kennedy’s takes an inside look behind the secret doors of the White House, the soiled and crooked steps it took to get there. It also tells the historical stories that are associated with the Kennedy era – the Bay of Pigs, the Missile Crisis, the civil rights struggle, the mob connection – each one told in the context of personal, Kennedy-family dramas.”
I can’t remember any major networks taking on such a huge mini-series project, so don’t expect to see this paired up with 24 next season. Right now an unnamed major cable network in the US is in talks to take on the mini-series. Clearly HBO and Showtime are the big frontrunners in anyone’s mind on that list, and with their success with tales of John Adams previously I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Kennedy’s on HBO.
