Netflix's GLOW Goes Totally Flashdance In Hilariously Cheesy Season 2 Video
Netflix took viewers back to the 1980s in 2017 for a series unlike any other with GLOW. Starring Alison Brie, the show was all about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in the 80s, and it was a blast from the past in a uniquely hilarious way. Fans were thrilled at the news back in August that the gorgeous ladies would be back in the wrestling ring in Season 2, and Netflix officially announced the premiere date with the release of a Flashdance-tastic video that needs to be seen to be believed. Take a look!
Well, if anybody was worried that GLOW would go less hard on the 80s atmosphere for Season 2, I'd say this hilariously cheesy video should lay those worries to rest! Even Flashdance star Jennifer Beals would have to be impressed at GLOW's take on her iconic dance sequence to Michael Sembello's unforgettable "Maniac" song. If you ask me, the GLOW version actually makes some improvements on the Flashdance version. I never knew I needed see somebody using lipstick glowing with all the best special effects the 80s had to offer, but my life is vastly improved for having seen it. The effects are definitely a plus for the GLOW take on "Maniac."
Besides, who can argue that the gorgeous ladies actually singing along to "Maniac," music-video style, didn't make the video all the more fun? Sure, Jennifer Beals singing along might have ruined the tone Flashdance was going for back in 1983, but the singing along only made the GLOW video all the more entertaining. Of course, GLOW being GLOW, the video couldn't end without Sam showing up to ruin Ruth and Co.'s fun. That said, the Flashdance fun couldn't be held off for too long, and the women kept on dancing once Sam was gone. What better way to hype fans up for the next season?
In case you're not familiar with the original Flashdance version of "Maniac," take a look:
GLOW Season 1 took place in 1985, which is after Flashdance came out, so who knows? Maybe we'll get to see the women go full Flashdance in Season 2. Fortunately, the video also revealed when we can expect GLOW to hit the web with Season 2. You can catch Season 2 on Friday, June 29 at 12:01 a.m. PT on Netflix. The second season will follow the gorgeous ladies as they deal with their newfound fame following the finale of Season 1. Ruth and Debbie discover that they haven't resolved all their issues as they begin filming a season of TV together, and Sam's life goes through some big changes now that he has a teenage daughter in the house and 20 episodes of a TV show to put together.
All things considered, Season 2 has the potential to be even funnier than Season 1. We'll find out for ourselves by the end of June. The full first season of GLOW is available streaming now on Netflix. For what you can watch while we wait, be sure to check out our 2018 Netflix premiere guide and summer TV premiere schedule.
