Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff Is Going Back To Space For A New Netflix Show
Katee Sackhoff made a name for herself in sci-fi thanks to her role as ace pilot Starbuck on all four seasons of Battlestar Galactica. In the years since Battlestar came to an end, she has appeared on shows ranging from 24 to Netflix's Longmire to The Flash. Now, she's landed a role that will take her back into space, and it will also take her back to Netflix. Sackhoff will star in the space drama Another Life on Netflix.
In Another Life, Katee Sackhoff will play an astronaut by the name of Niko Breckenridge. She is the leader of a crew that embarked on a mission to discover the genesis of an artifact that is definitely of alien origin. Niko and her relatively unseasoned crew wind up in incredible and unforeseen danger. It will become apparent that there's every chance none of them will live to return from their mission. All things considered, it sounds like Sackhoff could use a Starbuck on the crew with her, even if Cylons aren't the threat they'll face in space.
Another Life was ordered straight to series at Netflix. It will run for ten episodes. The new show was created by Aaron Martin, who is a writer and producer with extensive work on series like DeGrassi: The Next Generation, Saving Hope, and Slasher. Deadline reports that Martin will serve as showrunner as well. Noreen Halpern of Halfire Entertainment will executive produce. Halfire Entertainment already produced an unforgettable Netflix original with Alias Grace; perhaps Another Life could make a big impression of its own.
Interestingly, Another Life isn't the only outer space show to get a series order from Netflix. The Lost in Space reboot debuted all ten episodes of Season 1 on the streaming service back on Friday, April 13. The Lost in Space showrunners are continuing to work in the hopes of a renewal for Season 2, and ratings indicate that a lot of people watched Lost in Space within the first three days of its availability. Obviously Another Life will be a very different show from Lost in Space, but perhaps the apparent success of Lost in Space gave Netflix the faith that there will be an audience for another outer space drama.
We'll have to wait and see. No details are currently available regarding who else will star on Another Life or when production will begin, so it may be quite a while before the show debuts on the streaming service. The one thing we can be sure of is that Katee Sackhoff knows what she's doing when she tackles a role in a space drama.
You can see Katee Sackhoff currently on Netflix in all six seasons of Longmire. If you're more in the mood for Sackhoff in all her Starbuck glory, you can find the full series of Battlestar Galactica streaming on both Hulu and Amazon Prime.
