Sons Of Anarchy Spinoff Mayans MC Finally Released Its First Video
Ever since Sons of Anarchy hung it up in a most brutal fashion years ago, the highways have been a little too quiet and free from rampant bloodshed. Things are definitely going to get louder this fall, thankfully, with the FX debut of S.O.A.'s spinoff drama Mayans MC. After nearly three years of waiting, the adrenaline-filled franchise has finally delivered some video evidence of its existence, and I'm immediately ready to binge the entire season. Check it out!
While only a teaser promo, it's still perfectly crafted for its purpose. We get a good sense of the most important location within this franchise, which is not simply Charming or Lodi or Oakland, but rather the open road itself, where a motorcycle club is able to look as intimidating as possible. And boy, does it work in this video.
To the tune of a Spanish cover of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black," the Mayans MC is zooming down the California highway in what would normally be a delightful setting, with thousands of roses surrounding both sides of the road. But things get metaphorical where the song is concerned, and we watch as all those bright red roses wilt and turn black as the bikers speed by. Just as SAMCRO was a danger magnet within Northern California, the Mayans are one of the biggest threats in the southern part of the state, and not even plant life is safe.
Considering we're still likely three-to-five months away from getting Mayans MC on our TVs on a weekly basis, it's understandable that FX didn't release a full-length trailer showing off all the ins and outs of this extension of the Sons of Anarchy-verse. There are still many things we have yet to learn about these characters and where the revamped narrative will kick things off.
Mayans MC stars J.D. Pardo as "EZ" Reyes, a prospect for the Mayans whose gifted upbringing made his parents proud, but whose idealized dreams were destroyed by Cartel violence. With vengeance as his new goal, EZ fully embraces the kind of life that he never would have wanted for himself before, and it's also the kind of life that he won't be able to break free from. EZ's parents will be played by Edward James Olmos and Jacqueline Obradors, and Clayton Cardenas will play EZ's brother Angel, who is a full-patch member of the Mayans. Fans will get to see Emilio Rivera return as Marcus Alvarez, the Mayans president who shared quite a few hectic exchanges with Jax and Clay on Sons of Anarchy, and other cast members include Sarah Bolger, Danny Pino, Richard Cabral, Carla Baratta, John Ortiz, Michael Irby and many more.
Check out co-creator Kurt Sutter's recent post showing off one of the most intimidating row of lights TV fans will see this fall.
Mayans MC is set to debut this fall on FX, though a specific release date has yet to be announced. While waiting, though, check out this very special Sons of Anarchy list, and then head to our summer premiere schedule to see what other new shows will show up in the coming months.
