Stranger Things' Bob Returned For Bizarre Netflix Video, And We're Confused
While Netflix has a ton of original content for its subscribers, there are a few shows that stand out among the rest. Perhaps the biggest flagship property in the streaming service is The Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things, which became a surprise hit when it premiered back in Summer of 2016. The show's second season hit this past fall, greatly expanding the world of Hawkins and overall scope of the conflict. Stranger Things 2 also introduced a handful of new characters, the best of which being Sean Astin's sweetheart Bob Newby. Good news for the fans: Bob is back... kinda. Netflix released a quirky new clip with Sean Astin, while also bringing back Dustin's cat Mews-- which got eaten by Dart. You really have to see it to believe it.
Well, ok then. This funky digital short saw Sean Astin and Mews watching their respective death scenes. It was quirky and unexpected, although you don't have to ask me twice to have Sean Astin do basically anything. That includes giving peer therapy to a cat about its fictional death.
The video opens with Seasn Astin and Mews on the couch, gearing up to work through their shared emotional trauma. Astin pats the kitty's paw, helping to comfort it when watching Dart kill and eat it onscreen. Mews was Season 2's first fatality, and proved that Dustin was way over his head with the growing demodog Dart.
While this interaction was cute enough, the video got a little more bizarre when Sean Astin watched Bob's horrifying death from Stranger Things' second season. He had a hard time watching Bob be brutally ripped apart at Hawkins Lab, but luckily Mews is there to help him. The cat pats his hand gently with its paw, mirroring the previous image of the two departed characters.
Bob was one of the most highly anticipated aspects of Season 2, and audiences were eager to find out the character's true allegiance. While some fans theorized he could be a mole for Hawkins Lab, he turned out to be a regular old Radioshack employee and overall sweetheart. He eventually risks his life to save Joyce and the others, and meets his grisly end in front of her eyes. It was the most heartbreaking moment of Season 2, and certainly harkened back to Barb's death in Season 1. Funny enough, the Duffer Bothers had previously teased that Bob would be the new Barb of the show, we just didn't know how literally it would all go down.
It's currently unclear when Stranger Things will return for its third season. The Mindflayer is coming, and this time it's not going to kid around.
