Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple Might Be Leaving The MCU
While fans of the MCU might still be reeling from the events of Avengers: Infinity War, things on the small screen are still going full speed ahead. Netflix's Marvel shows crossed over during last summer's Defenders miniseries, with Rosario Dawson's character Claire Temple helping to bring the various vigilantes together with her shared connection to the heroes. Claire has been the glue of Netflix's Marvel shows, and she's set to once again appear in Luke Cage Season 2. But it turns out that might be Claire's last bow. As Dawson recently revealed,
After years of collecting Netflix appearances like they were going out of style, it looks like Rosario Dawson may want some space from playing Claire Temple. Although it doesn't look like a problem with the character; Dawson just wants to spend more time with her daughter.
Rosario Dawson's comments to Screen Geek may be a bummer for the Marvel fans out there, but she's got a point. Since Claire has popped up in every Marvel show (besides Punisher) Dawson has had to make her schedule available for years. While this made her the most beloved non-superhero character in the Defenders-verse, it also means the actress has been working her ass off. After uniting New York's heroes and stitching up their wounds, Claire Temple deserves a much needed vacay. After a quick Punisher appearance, that is.
With The Defenders finally in contact with each other, there is also less need for Claire to be around. We saw something similar happen with Nick Fury on the silver screen. While Samuel L. Jackson's cycloptic S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was essential during the first few phases of movies, he's been mostly absent in Phase Three. Luckily that's about to change, as _Captain Marve_l will expand the character in new and exciting ways.
Claire Temple is slated to appear in Luke Cage, although given Rosario Dawson's comments, fans may be nervous about what's in store for the character. Claire is in love with Luke and very attached to Danny and Matt Murdock, so it would take something big for her to suddenly disappear. Let's jut hope Netflix doesn't try any funny business by killing her off.
Claire will return to the MCU with Luke Cage Season 2 on June 22, 2018. In the meantime, check out our summer premiere list to plan your next binge watch. Plus our Amazon premiere list and superhero premiere list to ensure you don't miss a single episode of your favorite show.
