Disney Has A Nintendo Switch TV Contest In The Works
There have been TV projects based on video games and video games based on TV projects, but the concept of a TV project all about playing video games is fairly unconventional. Disney Channel has a new contest in the works that will feature contestants competing against others in Nintendo Switch battles. It will fittingly be called Nintendo Switch Family Showdown and give contestants the chance to win big prizes. Here's what you need to know.
Nintendo Switch Family Showdown will be a one-off event that pits four families against one another in Nintendo Switch competition, according to Nintendo of America. Although video game fans can get very competitive, the goal is for "fun and friendly" competition. The families will face off in challenges on a variety of games from Nintendo Switch. They'll be tasked with looking for collectibles in the mega-popular Super Mario Odyssey, busting moves in Just Dance 2018, and going head-to-head in Mario Tennis Aces. The contest will air on Disney Channel and Disney XD, as well as stream on the DisneyNOW app for folks who prefer streaming.
The families who compete win a trip to Los Angeles, where they will get the chance to meet their favorite Disney Channel stars on top of competing in Nintendo Switch Family Showdown. I'm guessing meeting Disney Channel stars will be a bit more of a thrill to the kids of the families, but the trip itself could be a big prize to whole families. That said, there will be the chance for more prizes, and some might be fun for parents as well as kids. Victors in Nintendo Switch Family Showdown will be in the running for other rewards.
Win or lose, it sounds like competing on Nintendo Switch Family Showdown should be a lot of fun for the families who get the chance to show off their Nintendo skills. The tournament contest will film on a colorful set with a Nintendo theme, although hopefully contestants won't have to travel everywhere through a set of pipes. The families have not been selected at this point, and you can apply yourself if you feel you can meet the qualifications.
Families can apply to participate in Nintendo Switch Family Showdown via submission of an original video. The video can't run for more than one minute, so the family members will have to put together a killer pitch that sells them as the best candidates for the show in under sixty seconds. They'll need to explain why "they are the ultimate Nintendo fans." Only four families will be chosen (and only four family members can participate), so if you do enter, be sure to put together the best submission video you possibly can. The contest opened for submissions on June 18 and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. PT on July 1. The tournament will take place on August 3. Check out the submission page for your chance to appear on Nintendo Switch Family Showdown.
