Iron Fist Season 2 Trailer Is Gritty And Thrilling
Last year we met the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Danny Rand in Netflix's Iron Fist, but unlike predecessors Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, the show was not met with heaps of critical praise, to put it lightly. Nevertheless, Iron Fist Season 1 had strong viewership, leading to Season 2 eventually being ordered. Now following his starring role in The Defenders miniseries and a guest appearance in Luke Cage Season 2, Danny is months away from leading his own adventures, and we finally have our first trailer teasing what's in store for Iron Fist Season 2.
Rather than show off too much of what's coming in Iron Fist Season 2, this first preview reunites us with Danny Rand as he finds trouble in a New York City alleyway. His origins may be mystical, but just like Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Danny is a street-level hero, and following the events of The Defenders, where he decided to become a vigilante to fill in for the presumed dead Matt Murdock, he's more determined than ever to keep the Big Apple safe. Sometimes that means fighting operative of The Hand, and sometimes that just means dealing with the common class of criminal. Danny has no issue stopping these toughs from harming an innocent man with his natural fighting skills, but when he's surrounded, that means it's time to break out the trusty Iron Fist and slam it into the ground, knocking them all back. Opponents defeated!
Along with the first Iron Fist Season 2 trailer dropping, the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con revealed intriguing new information about what's coming up. This included that Star Wars Into Darkness actress Alice Eve is playing longtime Marvel baddie Typhoid Mary, Danny's former friend Davos will fully transform into the Steel Serpent (as evidenced by Davos' hand glowing red), Colleen Wing and Misty Knight will form the Daughters of the Dragon, a flashback clip of Danny in K'un Lun fighting Davos in his classic Iron Fist mask and even a hint that we may finally see Shou Lao, the dragon Danny had to defeat to become Iron Fist. It's too soon to tell how Iron Fist Season 2 will compare to its predecessor, but working off these new details, clearly a lot of elements from the comics being added. That said, I'm particularly curious to see how Typhoid Mary will fit into Iron Fist since she typically clashes with Daredevil in the comics.
Iron Fist Season 2 will premiere on Netflix Friday, September 7. If you're interested in what other shows are heading to the streaming platform later this year, check out our handy schedule, and feel free to also look through our summer premiere guide.
