Fear The Walking Dead's Midseason Trailer's Is Intense And Suprisingly Upbeat
Fear the Walking Dead took on a host of game-changing elements in the first half of Season 4, from the time jump to the structure shifts to the losses of Madison and Nick Clark. Fans have wondered how in the hell the AMC drama could possibly follow that up with this next batch of episodes, and now that the first big trailer got released for San Diego Comic-Con, we have a better idea of how Alicia & Co. are going to fare in a post-Vultures-and-Madison world. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't look like everyone is suddenly happy-go-lucky about their situations. Check out the full trailer below.
One thing is for sure: Alicia's current-timeline vicious streak has not let up simply because she no longer needed a reason to be hyper-pissed at Jenna Elfman's June over Madison's death. Alicia doesn't need that vengeful attitude in order to fearlessly dispose of walkers in brutal ways, just needing that pipe weapon of hers. (Although I genuinely thought she uppercutted that one zombie right through his jaw.) These are dark days, and the fact that no one is keeping newcomer Charlie imprisoned seems all the more ridiculous. There's a lot of questions about the back half of Fear The Walking Dead Season 4. Luckily, we've got at least some answers, thanks to the panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The trailer opens with a surprising musical choice: the bouncy fun classic"Its Oh So Quiet." In dark and often hopeless zombie apocalypse, one doesn't think about happy love songs enough. Yet this cognizant dissonance is what makes the overall video so fascinating. While the group of survivors have been separated are in mourning, there's also some surprising moments of levity. I mean, Alicia and Strand drink a beer together at one point.
Fear The Walking Dead made some serious changes in Season 4, so pressure is on for the show's back half to deliver, ensuring the spinoff still has legs to stand on in the process. Fear has proven time and time again that it's willing to kill off lead characters, with only Alicia and Strand remaining from the original cast. But there are still plenty of exciting plot points to explore in 4B, as well as a handful of new characters to help fill out the ranks of the series.
As the new trailer opens up, it becomes clear that the survivors of Fear The Walking Dead have a new enemy to face this year: the weather. A hurricane or tornado is one of the trailer's first shots, and seems to be the macguffin that will once again separate the group into smaller pairings. In Fear's comic-con panel, Greg Nicotero expressed his excitement about the hurricane sequences, particularly how the extreme weather will affect the undead. You can see some walkers being blown away during the above trailer, but something says that's just the tip of the iceberg.
There are also a handful of new characters who pop up throughout the trailer. Since the group starts off separated, they're going to need to make new friends in order to survive. This includes a new shotgun-wielding survivor in a wheelchair and his female companion. Luciana is also shown attempting to save another survivor, no doubt trying to make amends for Madison and Nick's passing. Finally, the trailer ends with another mysterious character warning Morgan about his future.
Fear the Walking Dead will make its return to AMC for the back half of Season 4 on Sunday, August 12, at 9:00 p.m. ET. To see what other shows will be popping up in the meantime, head to our summer premiere schedule.
